5 Design Blogs We Love
Authoring a home improvement blog allows me to appreciate other home improvement, design, and inspiration blogs. It’s easy to get caught up and spend hours daydreaming about the things I’d like to do with my own home.
Here are 5 design/home improvement blogs I consider my favorites for the work I do at Build.com:
Apartment Therapy
Blog: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com
Facebook: Apartment Therapy
Twitter: @apttherapy
“Saving the world, one room at a time” is the tagline for Apartment Therapy. It features distinct sections on major metropolitan areas whose inhabitants are potentially starved for creative solutions to their unique tight-quarter living challenges.
decor8
Blog: http://decor8blog.com
Facebook: decor8
Twitter: @decor8
Textiles, colors and palettes fill these pages. Brilliant colors and a fabulous layout help propel decor8 forward to the front of the design blog line. It definitely leans more toward the feminine crowd with plenty of space inside their homes, founder Holly Becker clearly made the right choice when she decided to bounce from the corporate world and write about design.
Design Sponge
Blog: http://www.designsponge.com
Facebook: Design Sponge
Twitter: @designsponge
When you’ve completed a design or DIY project for your home, you want to show it off. Design Sponge goes beyond the inspiration of designing your home with tips on how to plan a party, plan a meal, and mix a drink. I first discovered Design Sponge when a colleague passed along an idea to re-purpose (empty) wine bottles. Since then, I’ve coveted it as a great resource.
Houzz
Blog: http://www.houzz.com
Facebook: houzz.com
Twitter: @Houzz_inc
This is currently my favorite go-to, must-see-everyday design blog. Houzz.com has inspired a number of Build.com Facebook posts as well as remarkably easy (and fun!) DIY projects. With Ideabooks from professional designers, fabulous images, and an easy-to-navigate layout, I don’t go a day without checking out Houzz.com at least once.
Young House Love
Blog: http://www.younghouselove.com
Facebook: Young House Love
Twitter: @younghouselove
A spunky young couple from Manhattan bought a 50-year-old home in Richmond, Va., that needed a lot of help. YHL follows their home improvement hijinks (both success and failures) in a very open, honest, and gregarious voice that’s nearly irresistible to turn away from. Seriously, just go ahead and try. With model good looks and a writing style that’s bound to keep you reading, Young House Love is as entertaining as it is informative.
Until next time, Happy Home Improving!
