Home Office Design Ideas

decor

Home offices have evolved into a much-used room in a home, so you might as well furnish it to maximize its effect.

Home offices have evolved into more than just the desk, phone and bookcase. And a few simple updates to the home’s technological brain-center, tranquil meeting place and source of inspiration can pay big dividends in the long run.

Lighting

Lighting is a good place to start. Ceiling lighting (something like a chandelier, flushmount fixture, recessed lighting or even ceiling fan with a light) can be the entire room’s main light source.

For a secondary light, a wall sconce can showcase a piece of art, or a desk lamp can offer task lighting.

Mother Nature can provide inspiration, as well. There’s nothing as soothing as natural light. A window, skylight or sun tunnel can bathe your office in sunlight.

Heating/cooling

You want to at least be comfortable in your home office. Portable heaters and ACs are designed for times like this. Their versatility is matched only by their power and reliability.

And, of course, add a ceiling fan to the home office conversation. They’re powerful, incredibly efficient and can be as decorative as you choose.

Furniture

Make sure your desk has enough space for necessities without causing desktop clutter. Multiple drawers are essential for storage, and, depending on your setup and space, file cabinets might be required.

Comfort is top priority while working at your desk, and your guests should also be comfortable. Furnish your home office with enough comfortable chairs and sofas for others to sit in for a few hours at a time.

Shelving is also a must. From books and décor items to picture frames and CDs, try to keep what needs to be on the shelves off the floor and you’ll breathe easier.

Décor

A mood board can help you collect your design ideas and inspirations into one easy-to-access place.

While we all have a certain motif in our homes in one way or another, we all have our own favorites, from wall art and rugs to indoor plants and décor items.

If you’re inspired to fix up your home office, organize your thoughts with a mood board as a simple way to collect your ideas and inspirations in one easy-to-view place.

So, whether you’re remodeling your home office or just freshening it up, the process of making your place of work at home your center of inspiration should be an enjoyable one.
